Alta Garrotxa shares how it manages recreational activities across Europe

On 8 October, Alta Garrotxa took part in the webinar “Active Tourism and Protected Areas: Driving Change Together”, organised by EUROPARC Federation as part of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism. The event brought together examples of tourism management in protected areas, including the Marine Reserve of the Medes Islands.
Alta Garrotxa’s presentation outlined its work with the Catalan Speleology Federation to protect ravines and manage recreational activities. Cooperation and the European Charter’s coordination forums have helped turn shared proposals into action, with some included in the Alta Garrotxa Protection Plan.
The discussion also covered challenges such as climate change, drought in temporary waterways, emergencies, and balancing tourism with the needs of local communities.
